Creating Space

Over the past weeks I had felt a little stuck in my procrastinating thought patterns which were on the negative note and with the projects I had already started, so once again I turned to the book The Artist Way – Julia Cameron.

Now for those of you unfamiliar with this book, it is a 12 week supportive guide, which involves writing daily morning pages; writing 3 pages of unconscious thoughts aswell as a selection of  suggested weekly tasks.
Likened to meditation to clear the mind or taking a shower these pages help to clear anything under the surface which needs cleaning away, creating room for creative energies to resurface.

As I  frantically scribbled, uncluttered my rambling thought processes and experienced a sense of clearing I related it to Yoga – The creation of space – mind, body and soul.
Through meditation we are invited to clear our mind, by aligning, anchoring and lengthening our bodies in asanas and by using our breath creativity in our practice we create space.

How often have we found ourselves prevented from progressing with a particular pose, feeling stuck, caught up in our negative thought patterns; ‘I’ll never be able to do that pose..my arms aren’t long enough…I’m not flexible enough…’ Yet, maybe if we created space in our body and mind we may open ourselves up to something new.
